Blacksmith Featured in c’t Magazine 26/2013

Some pretty cool news that i thought i would share with you all today is that Blacksmith has been included on the software CD that is issued with the December issue of c’t magazine! Blacksmith also reached Google Play’s 5,000 download milestone this past week. A lot of really positive news about my game and the reviews are actually very good and I’m receiving a lot of them which is always great. If you want to check out the magazine you can follow these links:

Just a quick side note i have been very lazy when it comes to Donkey Dash this week and haven’t worked on it at all since my last update here.

She is Alive!

It’s the small victories that matter. I was able to get the character animated with a simple wave and imported her into the game just to make sure it worked. It did. I still hate 3D.

I Forgot How Much I Hate 3D

I had forgotten what it was like to model, rig, skin and animate 3D models when working on Trashtastic. I thought it was a good idea to make another 3D game. I thought it would be fun. I completely forgot why i decided to make Blacksmith 2D in the first place.  I’m just thankful that i was smart enough to decide Donkey Dash’s art design would be simple and stylised.

3D is hell.

First Month Milestone

I’ve been working on Donkey Dash for nearly a month now and i have to say i’m happy with the progress i’m making, although progress is always quick at the beginning of any project because you can start anywhere running with no obstacles. The game has about 90 seconds worth of playable content at the moment. Which doesn’t sound like much but it isn’t all that bad. The world map is on its way to being complete. It’s just missing some 3d models and maybe some more tweaks and juicy animations here and there. I’ve also finished the base mechanics of the first three levels. Unlike my last two games, Donkey Dash is going to have a story with cutscenes because this is something people have asked for from my previous titles.

The game’s story is about a crazy cat lady who rides a donkey chasing after a muscle man who stole all her jewellery because he thinks diamonds are the best source of protein. The muscle man has a legion of animal ninjas and wizards to help protect him along the way. He also smells bad. The story begins with the man coming into the crazy cat lady’s house and stealing all her jewellery, you then chase after him around the island until the final conflict which happens at the peak of the islands volcano. Humour will play a big part in the game.

Two New Animations

I’ve added two new animations the first is a teleporting animation when the player clicks the stage they wants to play.

Updated Island

Some new features added to the island: lava coming out of the volcano and sand/beach around the edge of the island. World building is fun in itself, i’m thinking about trying out world building for my next game because building this island has been so much fun.

New Animations for World Map

Couple of animations added today. First is a ray of light coming out of each platform as you move towards it. Second is when you click the cube to enter a level it floats around the place and rainbow rays come out of the player (I’m not sure why, they probably wont stay).
